Day 1: Kigali City Tour and Transfer to Volcanoes National Park- Visit Ibyi’wacu Village
After having your breakfast, you will be picked up by a representative from Explore Rwanda Tours and taken on a tour of Kigali, including the genocide memorial Centre and Caplaki craft village. You will have lunch before driving to your next destination.
You will be transferred to Ruhengeri, where Volcanoes National Park is situated. The national park is known to be the home of mountain gorillas in the wild and is ranked as the second gorilla trekking destination after Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in southwestern Uganda, which hosts half of the world’s mountain gorilla populations.
Upon your arrival at the park, you will visit Ibyi’wacu village for a cultural experience where you will visit the former king’s palace, wear traditional Rwandan attire, dance to traditional Rwanda songs and also mingle with the friendly locals as you learn more about the unique culture in Rwanda.
Later head back to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Gorilla Trek and Transfer Back to Kigali.
Start your day with breakfast served at your lodge. You will then drive to the park’s briefing for your briefing. You will then be placed in a group with other trekkers and assigned park rangers and guides before heading into the forest in search for a gorilla group.
Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park consists of trekking in bamboo forests and these treks are not so challenging as compared to gorilla treks in Bwindi impenetrable national park in southwestern Uganda. Gorilla trekking tours in Volcanoes National Park take between 1-6 hours or more depending on the local of the gorilla family you are trekking. Once you have located a gorilla family, you will be given an hour to spend with the gorillas.
After your gorilla trek experience, you will have packed lunch and head back to base where you will find your driver guide waiting for you. You will then proceed with your drive back to Kigali where your driver guide will drop you off at a hotel of your choice or Kigali International Airport as you will advise.
