Detailed Itinerary for 7 Days Kibale Chimpanzee and Queen Elizabeth Wildlife Safari
Day 1: Pick up and transfer to Kibale national park
Depending on your location on the first day of the 7 days Kibale chimpanzee and Queen Elizabeth wildlife safari, you will be welcomed by our driver guide who will brief you about the safari and then start the journey to Kibale national park in western Uganda. On the way you will pass via Mubende and have en-route lunch in Fort Portal where after you will continue the journey with stunning views of the crater lakes, Rwenzori ranges, tea plantations, beautiful scenery among others. Upon arrival you will check into the lodge for dinner and overnight your lodge.
Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking and Bigodi swamp walk
Chimpanzee trekking,
After an early breakfast on the second day of the 7 days Kibale chimpanzee and Queen Elizabeth wildlife safari your driver guide will pick you up from the lodge and transfer to Kanyachu visitor’s center for a briefing about chimpanzee trekking. After the briefing you will start trekking in the forest with an experienced park guide in search of the chimpanzees which takes about 30 minutes to 4 hours depending on where the chimpanzees are located because they like to move from one place to another in search of food.
During trekking you will be able to view other primates different bird species, mammals, plants among others and once the chimpanzees are found you will be able to spend one hour with them in their natural habitat which gives you a chance to learn about their behaviors, watch them feed, breastfeed, fight, play, hunt, rest, mate, take photos and record videos with a flash less camera. After the face to face encounter with the chimpanzees you will trek back to the starting point where you will meet up with your driver guide and return to the lodge for lunch.
Bigodi swamp walk,
After lunch you will go for a nature walk in Bigodi swamp where you will be able to view different primate species like grey cheeked mangabey, l’Hoest monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys, baboons, view bird species like the great blue turaco, mammals like bush pigs, bushbucks, view different plant and tree species, colorful butterflies, enjoy the cool breeze among others. After the swamp walk you will drive back to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay as above.
Day 3: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth national park-afternoon game drive
After breakfast on the third day of the 7 days Kibale chimpanzee and Queen Elizabeth wildlife safari, you will check out of the lodge and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park. On the way you will have spectacular views of the crater lakes, tea plantations and upon arrival in Queen Elizabeth national park you will check into the lodge and have lunch.
Afternoon game drive, after lunch you will go for an afternoon game drive in the park where you will have great views of animals like buffaloes, elephants, giant forest hogs, bushbucks, waterbucks, Uganda kobs, some bird species among others. After the game drive you will drive to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: Morning game drive/optional lion tracking and afternoon boat cruise
Morning game drive/ optional lion tracking experience,
After an early breakfast on the fourth day of the 7 days Kibale chimpanzee and Queen Elizabeth wildlife safari your driver guide will pick you up from the lodge to go for a morning game drive where you will be able to view animals when they are most active. During the game drive you will see animals like elephants, buffaloes, waterbucks, Uganda kobs, bushbucks, warthogs among others grazing in the open savannah plains, view predators like lions, leopards before going back to their hiding areas, bird species and many others. After the game drive you will return to the lodge for lunch.
Afternoon boat cruise,
After lunch you will drive to the landing site near the luxury Mweya safari lodge for an amazing boat cruise on Kazinga channel a 40km long channel that connects Lake George and Lake Edward. During the boat cruise you will be able to view large herds of hippos and crocodiles in water, animals like elephants, buffaloes, warthogs, antelopes drinking water along the shores, view water birds like king fisher’s, fish eagles, cormorants, bee-eaters and see fishermen preparing their fishing gears for night fishing. After the boat ride you will drive back to the lodge for an evening relaxation, dinner and overnight stay at as above.
Day 5: Transfer to Lake Mburo National Park- Game Drive and Evening Boat Cruise
After having your breakfast, you will drive to Lake Mburo National Park. Upon your arrival in the park, you will embark on a game drive in the park taking about 1-2 hours and then drive to your lodge where you will check-in and have lunch. Later in the evening, you will head out for a boat cruise on the lake where you will get a chance to view a number of bird species around including the Malachite Kingfisher, African finfoot, Red-faced barbet and Pied kingfisher among others. After your boat cruise, drive back to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 6: Morning Game Drive and Transfer Back to Entebbe
After an early breakfast on day 6 of the 7 Days Kibale chimpanzee and Queen Elizabeth wildlife safari, you will go for a morning game drive in the park where you will be rewarded with great views of animals like waterbucks, buffaloes, zebras, impalas, topi, giraffes, warthogs among others which will be grazing in open savannah plains with due.
After the game drive you will drive out of the park and start the journey back to Entebbe passing via Kampala with en-route lunch and a stopover at the Equator in Kayabwe where you will take photos, buy craft items and then continue the journey to Kampala arriving in early evening. Upon arrival your driver guide will drop you off at your hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 7: Birding in Mabamba Swamp and Departure
After a relaxed breakfast on the last day of the 7 days Kibale chimpanzee and Queen Elizabeth wildlife safari, you will check out of the lodge and meet your driver guide. You will drive to the dock area in Entebbe where you will aboard a boat to Mabamba Swamp for your birding excursion.
After your birding excursion, you will drive to the hotel to refresh yourself and have lunch. You will then drive to Entebbe international airport in time for your flight back home.
