7 days Gorilla Bonanza package takes you to the 3 parks that have the last remaining mountain gorillas of the world. This trip happens in 3 countries that is DRCongo, Rwanda, and Uganda in a space of 7 days. Get to spice up this tour with a cultural tour or community visit in any of the “to be visited” destinations as you may prefer. You will also take on a complimentary city tour of the Kigali city visiting the Kimironko market for local produce and artifacts and also get to pass by the Kigali Genocide Memorial grounds. This safari starts and ends in Kigali Rwanda.

Trip description

Day 1: Pick up from Kigali to Goma- Virunga NP

Connect from Kigali to Virunga NP: By 8 am you will have met your driver guide in Kigali or the advised pick up point who will give you a brief and drive all the way to cross into DRCongo. Arrive at the Grande barrier by 10:30 am to check in with the Virunga National Park tourism office that is set up right across the passport control. You will join the security convoy headed to Virunga park to drop you off at your hotel for check-in and a late lunch. The hotel options are Kibumba Tented camp, Bukima tented camp or Mikeno lodge for luxury. Spend a night in the park while anticipating the next day.

Day 2: Virunga gorilla trek

Mountain gorilla trek in Virunga NP: Wake up early excited for this once in a lifetime experience. You will meet your driver-guide after and early breakfast to connect to the park headquarters for the briefing before you set out into the forest in search of the mountain gorillas. You will make your way through the thick forest for about 2 to 6 hours depending on how far the mountain gorillas will be that day. When you meet them, you are allowed 1 hour to enjoy the mountain gorillas, study them from a 6 meters distance, take nonflash photography, or just watch them go about their day. Drive back to your hotel for late lunch and spend the evening at leisure relaxing. You may opt to take on the community walk if you are feeling energetic and interested. Return in time for dinner and overnight at your hotel.

Day 3: Exit DRCongo to Volcanoes NP

Drive from Virunga NP to Volcanoes NP: In the morning after breakfast, meet your driver guide, check out of your accommodation and drive to exit DRCongo into Rwanda. Please note that you will need to get a new Rwanda visa as the other expires once you cross into DRCongo. This is a 3 to 4 hour drive. You may have lunch at Gisenyi on Lake Kivu shores and connect further to Volcanoes National Park arriving in the evening for dinner and overnight stay at Hotel Muhabura, Le Bambou Gorilla Lodge and 5 Volcanoes Gorilla lodge

Day 4: Volcanoes NP gorilla trek

Day 5: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable forest

Drive to Bwindi from Volcanoes NP: Your driver-guide will be waiting for you after breakfast to transfer you from Volcanoes NP to Bwindi Impenetrable forest National Park through the Cyanika border. This transfer is a 4-hour drive so you will arrive at your accommodation in time for lunch. You may spend the evening relaxing and enjoying the amenities at the hotel or ask your driver-guide to take you to a village visit where you will get the opportunity to interact with the local community. Get back to the hotel in time for dinner and first night in the “Misty Bwindi”.

Day 6: Bwindi Impenetrable forest NP gorilla trek

You will meet your driver-guide after and early breakfast to connect to the park headquarters for the briefing before you set out into the forest in search of the mountain gorillas. Day 7: Transfer back to Kigali

Road transfer back to Kigali: After having breakfast at leisure, you will pack your bags and check out of the hotel and meet your driver-guide who will be patiently waiting to drive you back to Kigali from Bwindi. You will cross through the Katuna border and arrive in Kigali for lunch. The Kigali city tour may be done after lunch where you will visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial Grounds and the Kimironko market for souvenirs. These will be your last activities before you advise the driver guide on your preferred drop off point in Kigali.
