Detailed Itinerary for 6 Days Uganda Chimpanzee, Wildlife, Gorillas and Lake Bunyonyi Safari.
Day 1: Pickup and Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park- Bigodi Swamp Walk
Our guide will pick you up from your accommodation about 7:00 a.m. and brief you on your trip before departing for Kibale Forest, which is around a 5-hour drive away. After lunch, you will be escorted for a tour in the Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary. This is a guided swamp tour that brings you closer to primates, particularly monkeys, birds, and butterflies. The wetland is a bird paradise with around 138 species, and it is well renowned for being home to the Great Blue Turaco.
This 2½ – 3-hour stroll is ideal for bird enthusiasts. You will need decent walking shoes because portion of the walk is muddy. Hopefully, you’ll see the rare Sitatunga antelope and shoebill stork. This is not to be missed. You will encounter several of the primates here, including a chimp at times. Other primate species include the black and white Colobus, grey-cheeked mangabey, red-tailed, l’Hoest, and blue monkeys, as well as olive baboons. Bushbuck, mongooses, and many more animals may also be found here. The lodge serves dinner and provides overnight accommodations.
Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking and Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park.
Kibale Forest National Park has the largest concentration of primate species in the world, including chimps. Uganda is home to over 5,000 wild chimps, making it an ideal location for spotting them!
The park is known for its primate population, which includes chimpanzees, Colobus monkeys, red-cheeked and red-tailed monkeys. Chimpanzees are frequently observed hanging in the forest branches, while others eat on natural fruits.
An expert ranger will take you chimp tracking about 6:30 a.m. Once you find the chimps, you will spend an hour with them. You will return to the lodge for lunch before departing for Queen Elizabeth National Park. This will need around two and a half hours of driving. You’ll arrive in the evening. Engiri Game Lodge will provide dinner and provide your overnight accommodations.
Day 3: Morning Game Drive and Afternoon Boat Cruise
Your day will begin early, at 6:30 a.m. Sunrise is generally the greatest time to see animals in their natural habitats. Going on a game drive at dawn will allow you to observe Africa’s famous “Big Four”: bushbucks, big pigs, antelopes, waterbucks, and a variety of birds.
You will complete your game drive and return to your accommodations just in time for lunch.
After lunch, you will take a two-hour boat tour down the Kazinga Channel, which connects Lakes George and Edward. You will undoubtedly be captivated by the concentrations of enormous hippos, elephants, and crocodiles, among others. At the water’s edge, you’ll also see a wide variety of birds.
After the boat trip, head to you lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
If you’re lucky, you’ll get to witness tree-climbing lions on early morning wildlife drives in the Ishasha area. After lunch, transfer to Bwindi National Park.
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is a large habitat for mountain gorillas in Uganda, home to an estimated 400 gorillas—roughly half of the world’s population, including three habituated groups that may be tracked. Its mist-covered hillsides are surrounded by one of Uganda’s oldest and most ecologically diversified rain forests, dating back over 25,000 years and home to around 400 plant species.
After a long day, you will check into your hotel and unwind before beginning your Bwindi gorilla trekking adventure the next day. Dinner and overnight accommodations booked by your lodge.
Day 5: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Forest and Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi
After an early breakfast, go to the park headquarters at 7:45 a.m. to join other trackers for a briefing on gorilla trekking guidelines. Trek through dense creepers and vegetation with your guides to discover the gorillas, which can take 1-8 hours. The heavily wooded area is quite thick, yet it is crisscrossed with various animal pathways that people may access. Once you’ve been assigned a gorilla location, you’ll have one hour with them. After that, head to Lake Bunyonyi.
The trip will take you through a picturesque section of the nation known as ‘the Switzerland of Africa’ due to its unusually cold temperature despite being close to the Equator. This lake is said to be one of the most beautiful sites in western Uganda. It is Africa’s second deepest lake [900 meters], and one of the few spots in the country where swimming is deemed safe due to the absence of bilharzias. You will use a canoe on this lake. Later, supper and overnight stay will be at your designated resort.
Day 6: Guided Hike around Lake Bunyonyi and Transfer Back to Entebbe.
After having your breakfast at your accommodation, you will trek around several hills, and the landscape surrounding the lake is made up of terraced hills that protrude from the water’s edge. Bunyonyi means “place of little birds,” and as the name implies, there is a lot of birdlife surrounding the lake. Afterwards, you will be taken back to Entebbe, with lunch provided on way.
