Detailed Itinerary for 8 Days Rwanda Safari
Day 1: Arrive in Kigali.
Following your arrival, you will be welcomed by our company representative/ guide and transfer you to your hotel in Kigali OR, depending on your time of arrival, enjoy a brief tour of Kigali city including Kimironko market and the Genocide memorials and transfer to the hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Transfer to Akagera national park and Ihema Boat Cruise.
Have breakfast and transfer to Akagera National Park where you will arrive in time for lunch at the lodge and later embark on the afternoon boat cruise on Lake Ihema where you will see game like hippopotamuses, Crocodiles and many bird species that live around the lake and the surrounding swamps. Dinner and overnight inside the park.
Day 3: Game drive in Akagera
Early in the morning after breakfast, you will go for a Northern circuit game drive to search for animals that you may have missed out in the previous game drive. It was not a guarantee that all the animals can be seen in the evening game drive.
There are some that are early risers and can only be seen in the morning. Return back to the lodge for a small relation as you wait for lunch. After lunch, you may go for a community tour if you are feeling energetic enough. Return back to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay as above
Day 4: Transfer to Nyungwe forest National Park
After breakfast, set off for Nyungwe Forest National Park. It is a scenic drive that goes through people’s homesteads and different hills of Rwanda – the land of a thousand hills. Arrive in the afternoon. Dinner and overnight stay at your lodge.
Day 5: Chimp trekking and Canopy walk
After a heavy breakfast, you will head to the park headquarters to track the chimpanzee which also gives an opportunity to encounter a variety of forest birds. In the afternoon, you will have a canopy walk in the forest or where you will view other primates from the top of the forest. Dinner and overnight stay at lodge.
Day 6: Transfer to Volcanoes National park (Rwanda)
Wake up for a transfer to Volcanoes National Park. The drive goes through the beautiful country side and peoples homesteads along with dramatic views of the Virunga Volcanoes. On arrival at Ruhengeri, check in at your selected lodge. Dinner and overnight stay at lodge.
Day 7: Gorilla Trekking Rwanda
Wakeup to an early morning breakfast and report to the park headquarters for briefing and allocation of Gorilla trekking groups. Later, you will head into the cold and misty forested slopes of Virunga national park for your Gorilla trek. The trek can be anywhere between 2 to 6 hours depending on the movement of the Gorillas and upon finding them, you will be allowed 1 hour to see and take photos after which you exit the forest.
Meet your driver / guide and transfer back to the lodge. If you feel strong, you may opt for a village walk. Dinner and overnight stay at lodge as above
Day 8: Transfer to Kigali
After breakfast, you will set off for Kigali with en route visits to Nyanza Kings palace for cultural visit, Butare national museum and Murambi genocide museum among others. You will arrive in Kigali late afternoon / early evening and drop-off at the airport.
