Detailed Itinerary for 7 Days Rwanda Wildlife, Bisoke Hike and Gorilla Trekking Safari.
Day 1: Pickup and Transfer to Akagera National Park- Afternoon Boat Cruise
Our driver guide will pick you up from your hotel and drive you to Akagera national park; arriving in time to enjoy a short game drive in the southern part of the park and an afternoon boat cruise on Lake Ihema. Get a chance to see a variety of wildlife along the lake shores, hippos, crocodiles and several bird species. Retire back to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Morning Game Drive and Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
Have breakfast in the morning and check out of your lodge. You will have a morning game drive in the park as you exit. The morning game drive gives you a chance to look out for any wildlife animals that you might have missed seeing in the previous game drive.
You will then proceed with your drive to Volcanoes national park with a stopover in Kigali city for lunch. Upon your arrival in the park, check into your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes NP
Have a heavy breakfast and grab your packed lunches and set out to the park headquarters at 7am to get the morning brief before your trek on what to expect, the do’s and don’ts and also get a chance to book your porter and all the hiking gear you may need. Set out into the forest in search of the gorillas. Trek with the rangers for about 2 to 7 hours according to the location of the gorillas.
Once you meet these endangered animals, you will be allowed 1 hour to enjoy their presence and it is in this magical hour that you get to take photos and study the lifestyles of the mountain gorillas in their families as they go about their daily routines. Connect back to your lodge for lunch and relax for a while.
After lunch, head back to base and return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: Mount Bisoke Hike
You will enjoy breakfast and set out for Mt. Bisoke hike which is part of volcanoes national park; home to Rwanda gorillas. On reaching the summit, you will discover a beautiful crater lake and the whole experience is overwhelming! Along the trail, you will discover a lot of birdlife and captivating scenery – the reason Rwanda is referred to as the “land of a thousand hills”.
Meet your driver / guide and transfer back to the lodge for lunch. If you feel strong, you will head out for a cultural tour to Ibyi’wacu village which is located outside volcanoes national park. Watch dance and singing performances from the local intore dance troupe, learn how traditional craft items are made and learn more about the Rwandan cultures. Dinner and overnight stay at lodge.
Day 5: Golden Monkey Trek and Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park
Breakfast will be served early and you will go for Golden monkey trekking in the park, taking about 1-4 hours depending on the location of the golden monkeys. Once you have located a golden monkey group, you will be given an hour to spend them before heading back to base. Have lunch and transfer to Nyungwe forest national park with lunch en-route. Dinner and overnight stay at your selected lodge.
Day 6: Chimpanzee Trek and Canopy Walk
Enjoy breakfast and go for briefing before entering the forest, searching for the active and playful fellows in Nyungwe forest. The Chimpanzees are the easy to spot, as they jump from one tree to another, chattering and laughing. Chimp tracking usually takes about 3 hours. You will then return to your accommodation for lunch.
After lunch, you will go on a walking trail that will take you to the Canopy Walk, a swing bridge 50 meters in length that is suspended from large trees. You will be able to see the amazing rainforest with a bird’s eye view, spotting wildlife moving about below you. Before night fall, you will return to the hotel for dinner and overnight at lodge same as previous night.
Day 7: Transfer Back to Kigali
This will be a more leisurely drive back to Kigali with the visits enroute that you may have missed that is the King’s palace, Butare museum and connect to Kigali for drop off. This day you may opt to include an optional city tour in Kigali if you may have some time to spare. Drop off will be at Kigali international Airport or as you will advise.
