It is located in the Virunga National Park, 29 kilometers northeast of Goma, Congo, on the border between the Congo Republic (Kinshasa) and Rwanda. Mount Karisimbi is home to gorillas and is recognized for its unique flora. It also contains four ecological belts, ranging from thick forest at the base to barren volcanic core.

Day 1: Pickup from Kigali and Transfer to Volcanoes National Park.

Depending on which hotel you are staying at in Kigali, you will be met by your tour guide/driver as early as 5 a.m. to depart for Volcanoes National Park, home to the world’s remaining mountain gorillas. You will then be connected directly to the park headquarters for a briefing about the activity as early as 7 a.m., after which you will be assigned ranger guides and set out on the hike. Karisimbi volcano is the tallest of the Virunga conservation region’s eight mountain summits.

The hiking expedition to the peak of Mount Karisimbi provides you with beautiful and breathtaking views of many volcanoes in the famous Virunga Massif, including Nyiragongo and Nyamuragira. This trek is difficult and challenging, so you must be physically fit to do it. This is a 6-hour climb with amazing views of many bird species and primates. When you reach an altitude of around 3700m, you will halt at the first camping site for dinner and spend the night.

Day 2: Hike to the summit, descend and Transfer Back to Kigali.

After an early morning cup of coffee, go on an hour-long trek to the peak. At this elevation, the trek is fairly steep, passing through thick forests surrounded by breathtaking landscapes. When you reach the peak, you will be able to enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding area, including Mount Muhabura. After enjoying your time at the peak, descend to the starting location, where your driver will be ready to greet you and connect for late lunch. Later, travel back to Kigali city where your driver guide will drop you off at a hotel of your choice or Kigali International Airport as you will advise.
