Akagera National Park in eastern Rwanda is well-known for its Big 5 population, which includes lions, elephants, giraffes, hippos, kobs, zebras, bushbucks, waterbucks, and, most recently, black rhinoceros.

Detailed Itinerary for 2 days at Akagera Safari

Day 1: Transfer to Akagera National Park- Game Drive and Sunset Boat Cruise. 

Following breakfast at your hotel, you will be met by your safari guide at 5:30 a.m., given a briefing, and then jumped into your safari jeeps and left for Akagera National Park. The travel to Akagera National Park takes around 2.5 hours depending on the stops along the way. When we arrive at the park, we’ll go for a brief game drive before checking in for lunch.

After lunch, we go for a little game drive to see some games. We will be looking for large creatures like as elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, many antelope species, and the recently reintroduced lions and rhinos. The park provides a diverse environment for animals and bird species, with over 500 bird species making it a birding paradise.

At 4:30 p.m., we go on a sunset boat tour on Lake Ihema to see hippos and crocodiles in the lake or on the coasts, as well as buffaloes and elephants along the water banks. Later, return to the lodge for dinner and an evening stay.

Day 2: Full Day game drive (Northern Circuit) and transfer to Kigali. 

Rise up early and go for a game drive with great anticipation of seeing the different animals that rise early to graze and predators looking for their early morning kill. Enjoy exploring the northern circuit of Akagera National Park which is rich with a variety of wildlife species including rhinos, giraffes, lions, elephants, Buffalos, zebras, and antelopes among others.

After the game drive, have lunch and connect with your driver guide to embark on your transfer back to Kigali. If you didn’t have a city tour on the first day, you may have it on this day before you are dropped off in Kigali or at the airport as you may advise.
