Golden monkeys are active, lively little creatures who amuse themselves by swinging through the bamboo or running in circles around and above you. They look great with the golden bamboo and have beautiful reddish-gold backs.

These lovely golden monkeys are an endangered species found only in the Virunga Mountains area of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, and Uganda. Only Rwanda and Uganda provide visitors the opportunity to hike to observe them up close.

Hiking to visit them is one of the more relaxing activities at Volcanoes National Park. The scurrying primates live near the bottom of the mountain range in the bamboo forest, and the environment is rather flat and simple to trek.

Day 1: Transfer to Ruhengeri for Gorilla Trekking Rwanda and Transfer Back to Kigali

Our company representative will come to pick you after the breakfast. And you will have packed lunch. The briefing is at 7 am. Your guide will give you highlights of specific details about the way of life of the golden monkeys you will be tracking. The hike can take anything from one to seven hours.

Trekking through the steep, bamboo slopes and then finally coming across the golden monkey families camouflaged in the vegetation is an inspiring and privileged moment. Once you reach the golden monkey family, you are allowed to spend one hour with them as you stand 6 meters away. Upon completion of this magical encounter, you will connect again with your driver / guide and transfer back to Kigali arriving in the evening. Drop-off at the airport or your hotel in Kigali.
