Activities in Volcanoes National Park: Volcanoes national park is one of the most rewarding national parks that tourists interested in the Rwanda safari can visit to have an amazing time as they take part in the different activities.  Volcanoes national park is famous for housing half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas that can be seen along the 5 virunga mountains in the park. Other attractions that can be seen include numerous bird species like, dian fossey grave, numerous primate species that can be seen when you take part in the activities in volcanoes national park for a memorable Rwanda safari.

Hiking the Virunga Mountains

There are five virunga mountains in the park where you will get to see a number of attractions when you participate in the different hikes.  In the park, there are five virunga mountains namely; Mount Gahinga, Mount Bisoke, Mount Karisimbi, Mount Muhabura and Mount Sabyinyo that will give you the chance to see a number of rewarding attractions. While you hike Mountain Gahinga, you will get to see a number of rewarding attractions like the caldera which is also used as a picnic area for hikers when they get to it. The area offers amazing views for photography where you will also get the chance to see a number of rewarding attractions like a number of bird species like handsome francolin, strange weaver, Archers ground robin, red faced woodland warbler, Ruwenzori double collared sunbird, Collared Apalis, Ruwenzori turaco, handsome francolin, strange weaver and many other rewarding attractions. During Mountain sabyinyo hike, you will get to see rewarding views of the mountain for instance at you will see the reason the mountain is called sabyinyo which means old man’s teeth.

During the Mount Bisoke hike, Mount Bisoke hike, you will get to see a number of attractions like numerous primate species like the Golden, vervet monkey, dent’s monkey, the Forest Elephants, Buffaloes waterbucks and many other species that make the activity rewarding, you will you will also get to see the biggest Crater Lake in Rwanda, Lake Bisoke which is a home to a number of water birds like the African fish eagle, African grey horn bill, heron and many more the hike.

 As you hike mount Muhabura you will get the chance to see a number of rewarding attractions like; the Amahoro gorilla family the most peaceful gorilla family in Rwanda. Muhabura Mountain can also give you the chance to see exceptional views of mgahinga national park in Uganda because the mountain is also shared by Uganda.

Gorilla trekking

Gorillas trekking is among the activities in volcanoes national park that you will take part in for an amazing Rwanda safari. Gorilla trekking in the park involves hiking the virunga mountains in order  to understand more about the endangered mountain gorillas in the park, when you get to the habituated gorilla families, you will observe how they co-exist with one another like how they carry out their grooming activities and in this case you will get to see a number of adult females in the park checking for lice on the infants in the family, you will also have the chance to see the dominant silver back of the gorilla family, their feeding patterns as you will get to see what they feed on like wild celery, edible leaves, bamboo shoots among other interesting features of the primates that will ensure you have an amazing gorilla trekking experience.

Golden monkey trekking 

Just like gorilla trekking in volcanoes national park, golden monkey trekking also involves tourists taking part in the hiking of the virunga mountains in order to access the habituated golden monkey troops and during the transfer to the troops, you will observe a number of rewarding attractions like other monkey species like black and white colobus monkey, dent’s monkey, Hamlyn’s monkey,  swinging in the bamboo trees of the park. Dian Fossey hike

Dian Fossey hike is another memorable activity you can take part in for a rewarding experience in volcanoes national park where you will get to know more about the person that ensured the protecting of the endangered mountain gorillas. During the hike you will get to see a number of primate species like the golden monkeys and the mountain gorillas and the Karisoke research station which she established to research about the mountain gorillas as she took care of them when they got injured during the poaching activities in the park with the different efforts of dian fossey and a group of park members they were able to minimise poaching in the park but unfortunately dian fossey lost her life during the struggle and she was buried at the gorilla cemetery in the park with her gorilla friends.  At the climax of you hike, you will get to dian Fossey’s grave where you will see besides her grave, the grave of her favourite gorilla digit who ws also killed during poaching in the park.

Birding   

Birding is another memorable activity in volcanoes national park that birders should not miss out on taking part in because of you will get to see a number of migratory bird species, bird species endemic to the albertine and these include; the long-crested eagle handsome Francolin, Rwenzori Batis Dusky turtle love, paradise flycatcher, archer’s ground robin, African Rwenzori, double collared sunbird, marsh harrier, Ruwenzori turaco, common moorhen Ruwenzori night jar, grey throated tit, the dusky crimson wing, red-faced woodland warbler that will make your activity quite rewarding and memorable.
