Detailed Itinerary for 9 Days Uganda Rwanda Double Gorilla Safari Tour

Day 1: Arrival and Transfer to hotel

Upon arrival at Entebbe Airport, our company guide/driver will welcome you and later transfer you to your Hotel. Have dinner and spend your night there as you prepare for your safari. However, depending on your arrival time, you could take advantage of it and do a city drive around Kampala city. Dinner and overnight stay at your lodge.

Day 2: Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park

After morning breakfast at the hotel, you will transfer to Kibale Forest National Park. This park is located in the western part of Uganda and it’s a 5 hours drive with en-route lunch and great views of the country’s landscape and the people. You will also visit Amabere ga nyina mwiri caves which are a limestone site with an amazing story behind it. You will visit the caves and get to view the breast-like formations in the cave and also enjoy the steaming sounds of the waterfalls. Later then connect to your lodge for relaxation. Dinner and overnight stay at the lodge.

Day 3: Uganda Chimpanzee tracking experience and transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

After early morning breakfast at the lodge, connect to Kibale Forest for your chimpanzee tracking experience with your packed snacks and water.

You will first report at the park headquarters for a briefing before entering the forest for the activity. During your tracking, expect to see a lot of primate species like chimpanzees, monkeys, and other animals like forest elephants, buffaloes, bush pigs, and duiker, warthogs, and reptiles as well as a colorful variety of butterflies. Return to the Lodge for lunch.

After lunch, you will be transferred to Queen Elizabeth National Park-Uganda’s second largest national park. This is a 3-hour drive from Kibale Forest National Park. You will have a stopover at the equator and take pictures then proceed to the park. Relaxation, dinner, and overstay at your lodge.

Day 4: Morning Game drive and boat cruise at Kazinga Channel

Early in the morning after breakfast, you will set out for the morning game drive in search of early risers in the Kasenyi area. The park has a diverse Eco-system of grassy plains, rivers, crater lakes, forests, swamps, and lakes. These are home to various types of wildlife (big 4) and a game drive in Queen Elizabeth National Park will reward you with views of animals such as lions, leopards, forest hogs, buffalos, elephants, waterbuck, Uganda Ko,b and other types of antelopes.

Return to your Lodge for lunch and after, go for a 3-hour launch cruise along the Kazinga Channel and into Lake Edward. This cruise will let you pass through a place of the highest concentration of hippos and you may also see many animals drinking at the water’s edge. The cruise also offers a good platform for photography, bird watching, and games. Dinner will be served at your lodge.

Day 5: Transfer to Bwindi Forest National Park

Breakfast will be served at your lodge. You will then check out and meet up with your driver guide. You will embark on about a 5-hour’ drive to Bwindi National Park with a stopover for lunch. Arrive in Bwindi in the afternoon and check into your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 6: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Forest

After having breakfast at your lodge, you will drive to the park headquarters for a briefing at 7:30 pm. Gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park takes about 3-6 hours or more depending on the location of the gorilla family that you are tracking. Once you have found the gorillas, you will be given an hour to spend with the gorillas. Have your packed lunch and head back to base where you will find your driver waiting for you.

After your gorilla trek and lunch, you can do an optional Batwa cultural tour where you will interact with the local Batwa people (pygmies), learn more about their interesting culture, and dance to their traditional songs.

Dinner and overnight at your lodge same as the previous night.

Day 7: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park (Rwanda)

Wake up very early, have breakfast and embark on a transfer to Rwanda through the Ishasha sector and view the tree-climbing lions while driving out of the park to connect to Volcanoes National Park. This is a 5-6 hours drive to cross over to Rwanda with a lunch break in Kabale. Proceed to cross through the Cyanika border in the Kisoro district. Upon arrival, check-in at your lodge for relaxation and later dinner and overnight stay.

 Day 8: Mountain gorilla trekking experience.

After an early morning breakfast, transfer to the volcanoes headquarters with your packed lunch for briefing about the endangered mountain gorillas and the volcanoes as well, after entering the tropical rain forest with a park ranger searching for the mountain gorillas, this will take about 1-8 hours depending on the movement of the gorillas. When you meet with the gorillas, you will be allowed to spend about an hour with them while taking photos, and videos of the gorillas, after returning to the park offices for your gorilla trekking certificate, meet your driver and return to the lodge to relax. Dinner and overnight stay at your lodge.

 Day 9: Golden monkey tracking and transfer to Kigali city

After early morning breakfast, transfer to the park headquarters for briefing, then set off to the forest to track the rare golden monkey, this is done at a closer view of the other primates in the park like the red-tailed monkeys, Vervet monkeys among others.

After having your lunch and refreshing, connect for a transfer to Kigali city. This is a 2-hour drive from Ruhengeri-home of the endangered mountain gorillas. Upon arrival in Kigali, visit the genocide memorial, and later in the evening transfer to the Kigali Airport for your departure flight back home.
